The Yucatec Mayan word “Lam’an’ain” translates to “submerged crocodile”. It was funded in the 16th century B.C. and covers approximately 958.5 acres. Lamanai boasts the 3rd tallest Mayan structure in Belize. The high temple is 100ft tall! The portal to this ancient city of Lamanai is the New River. The river is a nature-lover’s paradise. The river abounds with crocodiles, turtles, interesting flora and numerous water birds. This is a full day of activities around every corner.
